Born and raised in Simpsonville, South Carolina, I found my passion for makeup and beauty at an incredibly young age, I would say around the age of 11 or 12. I was my mom’s little protégé. Although my mom, Ms. Shirley Dial, worked a full-time job, she was a Mary Kay Consultant and started modeling for a local model agency, Millie Lewis. As a student she was able to land several opportunities by appearing in local department store ads and commercials. She loved passing her teaching down to me; showing me how to walk down an imaginary runway, dressing me in the latest fashion, keeping my hair styled to a T, and showing me tips for makeup application. Although my mother had dreams of becoming a big model and leaving the small town of Simpsonville, South Carolina, her devotion to being a mother overthrew these desires.
My mother’s teachings stuck with me throughout my teenage and young adult years, as I found myself dabbling more and more in makeup and hair. So much so, that my mother bought me a Marcel’s curling iron set and the age of sixteen. I found myself experimenting with different hair styles and makeup tricks on myself and my childhood friends.
Even with all this interest in the beauty industry, it was not until I turned 29, had two small children of my own (boys), was working on my 10th year as a machine operator at a local food packaging manufacturer, and had suffered a devasting life blow that resulted in me moving back home with my dad, that these deep-rooted teachings would reemerge. I had come to a crossroads in my life that caused me to truly question my own happiness and self-worth. With these thoughts and a little bit of depression setting in, I got a call from a mutual friend who asked me if I would do her makeup for a singing audition that she wanted to look her absolute best. I questioned my capability. I mean, she wanted to pay me, and I just was not certain that my work was worth paying. After the audition, I found that not only was it worth paying for but had received rave reviews.
The young lady’s name was Bree, and she had no idea how much she changed my life in that very moment. I fell in love with her genuine satisfaction. There was an instant gratification in knowing that I helped make a joyous occasion, even more special by helping her look and feel her most confident self. From that day forward, I wanted to chase that high that I felt. It was passion. It was purpose through my talent that I found that day. 2014 was the year that changed my life….
I started doing makeup for pageants, proms, brides, friends, family, anyone who would let me practice. In 2015, I decided that I wanted to increase my skills with makeup and learn more on the business side of the makeup industry, more specifically the Bridal/Wedding makeup business; so, I found Gwynnis Mosby Makeup Academy in Atlanta, GA. I graduated from several of her makeup programs that included, my Professional Makeup Artist Certification that kicked started my professional makeup career. I attended the Makeup Forever Academy in Manhattan, New York, where I received advance training in Bridal, High Fashion/Editorial makeup applications. I have trained with the likes of celebrity makeup artists such as Sam Fine, Renny Vasquez, Teresa Francine, and Aj Crimson just to name a few.
As my career become more centered around Bridal and Runway makeup, I found that a lot of these women wanted help with their skincare needs, as the flawlessness of their makeup application was heavily dependent on their skin health. With this epiphany, May of 2016, I took a leap of faith by deciding to quite my full-time job. I cashed out my 401k and enrolled as a full-time student at Southeastern Esthetics Institute, in Columbia South Carolina. I graduated in October of that same year and pursued my makeup and esthetician career full-time.
Now, I currently own and operate a day spa, House of Skin Aesthetics, where I services many clients from all walks of life. Most importantly, I cater to brides who are not only looking for flawless makeup application for their wedding day but who are wanting flawless skin overall….
